Quarterly Results : Office 365 has 85 million commercial customers, Azure grew significantly

Microsoft announced their quarterly results yesterday. One of the important metrics I was waiting  is Office 365 commercial subscriptions. It was 70 million last quarter. It grew significantly to 85 million. It reiterated Microsoft is the King of Productivity Cloud. Still Google have millions of paying customers. But being the market leader ,Microsoft will get  a lot more confused prospects as customers.  And it will increase the profits. This number is a bold positive sign where this company is heading to.

Earning reports also says  that Azure Cloud service grew by 121%  YoY in constant currency. It is an impressive number of course. Microsoft didn't break the revenue numbers. But keep this also in mind that AWS's 60% growth is much more than Azure's 120% growth. So this  also underlines that AWS will be the Market leader of IaaS and PaaS (if no miracles happened) despite the fact that Microsoft owns the most widely used Windows Server,Active Directory ,SQL Server and many other tools.

New Suit of Office Business apps are leaked

Microsoft watcher Walking cat leaked an unreleased  webpage which contain a new suit of Business productivity apps developed by Office team for small businesses. The apps include MileIQ (product which Microsoft acquired) and already announced Bookings.

Let me go one by one

  • No details available (marked as coming Soon)
These apps are available along with Office 365 business premium now. A lot of things are there to discuss about this. Let me list them as points
  • I was curious what was the plan with Mile IQ. It got acquired in 2015. but this much loved app didn't come to main stream till now.
  • I was doubtful about Bookings. I didn't see any value in that along with productivity collaboration and communication apps. Now with a suit of business apps it make sense.
  • These apps are not selling along with Dynamics 365 business edition which include financials, sales and service. Instead it is selling along with Office 365.
  • Developed by Office team. Not by the Business process team in Server & Cloud.
  • We expect mobile apps for these soon and may be these suite itself will get announced in November Office event
  • Last but not least , Logos of these apps are damn good. :)
